Modular N

Scale: N gauge, 2mm
System: DC and DCC
Size: 4ft x 5ft to 4ft x 30ft

The N gauge modular layout forms an ever-growing N 'system' in the club, as it is a composition of club-owned and privately-owned members boards which like a jigsaw all coming together. The added benefit of this is that we can operate DC/DCC stock rather than just one mode.

The system uses baseboards of lasercut birch plywood, cut by Tim Horn baseboards, and are all 2'6" wide with board lengths varying between 3' and 4' each.

The end boards also act like fiddle yards allowing siding storage and the running line coming around back on itself so that trains can run from one end to the other. Two front tracks form the main running lines and run over the 30' along the front of the public facing side; the first three inches of each module board are occupied by these tracks (except for the end boards). Back from this, the rest of a member's module is designed, planned, built and operated entirely to the owner's preferences, from a working diorama to miniature town scenes.

The modular system has legs being built for it. This allows it to be with all boards when connected together as a standalone system, or, have also been designed to rest on existing tables when legs are not required.

When not in use with the other modules, the two end boards can be joined together and used as a small test track for other members on club nights, either on DC analogue or DCC control.
